Roxi's Story

Roxi in Foster Care

Roxi was picked up by our animal control as a stray. She was hungry, dirty, emaciated, and infested with tapeworms. She captured my heart. I am currently the webmaster of the KCSPCA.

I was filling in as a Vet Tech that day doing evaluations and temperament testing when she came into the room. As soon as I saw her, I just knew that there was something special. Because she was so afraid, I asked to foster her. I took her home and couldn't of asked for a better dog when it came to my 18 month old daughter.

I would have kept her but due to my living arrangements, my home was way too small and it simply wasn't fair. She deserved the best. I asked a friend of KCSPCA named Shannon from Save-A-Bully rescue to help in finding her a great home. Since she lived with me, she definitely came out of her shell from living with me and was a little over dominant with female dogs. She didn't fit in with the first family that was going to adopt her so we had to keep looking. Finally Shannon found another family and this time this was it. The adoption was finalized.

I got a message a few weeks after that saying how great things were. Then just the other day we got an email from Roxi's new mom and this is what it said...
Tell us your story, it just might end up here!

Roxi is doing great!  We love her so much here.  Roxi and the cat have their games they play, but the cat tries to get Roxi in trouble the little scammer she is. Max my mother in laws 90lb boxer loves her.  They wrestle and kiss when they are together.  During their introduction,  Mac barked in her face 3-4 times and then Roxi turned and barked in his face once.  I couldn't believe my eyes when Max instantly laid at her feet submitting to her.  It was the funniest thing to see this 90lb boxer wussing out to our Roxi. She is not intimidated by big dogs a bit.  Females rule no matter what species...LOL Roxi and Leo get along great. She is really coming out of her shell and showing the wonderful personality of hers.

She rings the bell to go out already and scratches or barks to get in so she has learned the ropes here fast. I have her and Leo on a really good food. We are working on a few things but not big issues.  My husband noticed it that she is a little nervous  around men when alone.  She loves my husband and waits for him to come home from work.  And the boxer wiggle comes out she almost falls over.  She also acts like someone hit her in the rear and the head but she is getting better with that with time and trust that she does not get hit here and is safe. She is gaining weight and looking beautiful.  She wrestles with my husband but is so gentle with Nic.  She is so gentle taking bones and food, not greedy at all.

She sleeps with us and gets Nic up in the morning with kisses.  We love bye byes. She was very uneasy at first till she realized she was always coming home.  Now it is no problem at all.  No accidents in the house.  I am so glad my husband stepped in to help me make the decision because she is wonderful and fits right into this crazy house.

Thank you so much for bringing her here.  I would never of considered a female boxer but because of you she has a loving crazy forever home. She has a great life here to look forward to.  She will be going for walks at the lake, trips to the beach, puppy vacation this summer, and a home that loves her very much. I have an appointment with the vet to get a check up and get her established.
Here is a picture of her playing with her buddy.
